So I spoke to the master at college yesterday and he finally got back to me today. I cannot leave college unless I pay out the remaining $5000 on my contract even though I have given four weeks notice. Because I am on a 45 week contract he said it wasn't fair for me to leave my contract because I have been receiving substantial discounts because I was on a longer contract.. I get a 5% discount, a five percent discount off approximately $23,000 is only $1,150! Substantial my arse!
Let me tell you, if any of you are looking to live on campus in Australia, don't do it unless you are absolutely sure that your parents are going to keep their jobs for the whole time of that contract, I thought my dad loosing his job would be an extenuating circumstance but its not, residential colleges are all about making money! The worst part about this is is that I live at an Anglican college that prides themselves on being caring, I'm sorry I don't think demanding $4000 from me when I don't have that money is very caring. If anyone has a spare $4000 I could have, let me know!
And before any of you spill out all of that "you signed a contract" bullshit, it does have a clause that if it is extenuating circumstances that they will strive to ensure the best outcome possible, all they did was strive to ensure they get their money because they built a brand new building that they now realise they can't afford to pay off! Not my problem! Also, another really hard part is that neither of my parents are answering their phones so I can't tell them, and I got my periods for the first time in two years and am having major cramps! Kill me now!
Anyway, rant over. Maybe.. But seriously, help me?
