OOTD : 5th July, 2013 - My Sewing Escapades

Good Morning! Or afternoon/evening wherever you're reading this from.

Yesterday I was super productive, I took in both dresses from Asos and made a pair of Culottes. However, the culottes probably won't be worn out in public as anything other than over my swimsuits and stuff when going to the beach. It wasn't a total fail but the fabric I was using was super difficult to work with, I'll know for next time!

From this ill fitting dress. I moved the zipper from the underarm and placed it in the back and took in the sides and made the under bust darts a bit bigger.

Now it fits nearly perfectly!

Notice how the zipper is no longer under the arm!

My zipper sewing skills have come a long way, I am actually impressed by this effort!

Next item I took in was another Asos goodie. I am still contemplating taking the tulle out of the lining also.

It was a little big under the arms. I took care of that, also I think the straps may need to be shortened also but I am not confident in my ability to do that.

No more underarm gaping, yeah buddy.

Now onto the culottes. Not a total failure but pretty bad. Mum said to me earlier "culottes are the most unflattering item of clothing ever invented" and in hindsight I probably should of listened to her words of wisdom.

Fist problem is the length and I tried to hem them but the fabric is so difficult and then they were way too short. Second problem is the bulkiness of the waistband, I know this could easily be fixed and I am considering undoing the waistband and putting a separate piece for the waistband which would also help with the length issues. I don't think it was a complete failure though, I definitely learnt something about making culottes and I am going to try again with a fabric that isn't so difficult and doesn't need to be lined.

Now onto my outfit.

Whoa, my torso looks really long in the first photo!

Top : Asos Curve

I hope you all have a wonderful day! To the Americans reading, I hope your 4th of July was fabulous!

Happy Blogging my Lovelies xo
